Willing to invest rm10k but not sure what to invest in

@orthodoxokie no no no, don't listen to him. The fact you don't trust stashaway is already a huge sign how risk averse you are. Crypto whether it's BTC, ETH, and alt-coins are riskier than stocks especially compared to lesser known stocks.

Disclaimer: I hold BTC and ETH

@orthodoxokie FD (because current rate is high), money market (like TnG +), ASM

This is because from what i gather about what you are saying, you are really really freshie and know little to nothing about investment; which is fine. We were all there before. The above are very low risk and quit liquid. Park your money there first, learn about the basics of investment and then only slowly diversify into more risky stuff.

@orthodoxokie This is a fairly good guideline of RISK:

-4% pa is quite safe for low risk investment these days: from 12 mth FD to TNG to Versa to ASM. Your money generally have no downside risk, but not much upside either.

- if you are looking for 10%+, then you definitely need to be able to stomach some downside risk, such as S&P 500, but generally your money wont go to zero.

if you are looking for 20%+, then you are looking at single stocks/crypto.

At the end of the day, its how much you are willing to risk, then evaluate how much you returns you are aiming. Too many people aim the returns, but when the risk aspects kicks in, they panic sell at the low.

@orthodoxokie 19 is a very young age and 10k is a very decent amount to start. It's good that you are careful about taking risk. However we need to learn to take risk. Young people is supposed to take risk, as time is at your side. Many friends I know didn't take risk when they are young, now when they are almost retiring, they start to take unnecessary risk, which might jeopardies their retirement fund.

General rule is low risk, low return, high risk high return. If you meet someone asking you to enroll a product with high return with no risk, then it's most likely a scam.

Low risk investments like ASM, ASB will typically returns about 4%-5%, money market funds like Go+ will be lower, typically those are suitable for temporary parking or emergency funds. If you want to go beyond 5%, then you'll need to learn how to take some risk.

Go talk to someone with experience, investment is quite personal in the sense that everyone tolerance to risk is different, thus not all investment is suitable. We need to choose investments which suitable to our risk tolerance and not investments with highest gain or lowest risk.
