@dszumera Yeah I had this happen to me (mother falsely claiming me), I fixed it directly with the irs so she had to settle her bill with them, since she would have never reimbursed me the amount I would have lost
@stanlywood_66 Correct. At the end of the registration you have to affirm that anybody on the Marketplace plans is not eligible to receive health care from an employer or Medicare.
@resjudicata You can be a dependent, whether or not you have a job and file taxes. If you are living at home, not paying rent, not providing for more than half of your needs, etc.
@daughteroftheking84 Why did your parents put them on their plan without your consent, and how could they do so without you knowing about it?
I would call the insurance company that did this and tell them that you didn’t consent to being put on their plan, and any attempts to add you to the plan in the future should be rejected unless they get your approval first.
@alanschafer1 Yeah I'm not sure but I also talked with my parents about it. They didn't do it with malicious intent but it is indeed a headache that I'll have to deal with their actions.
@daughteroftheking84 You need a tax professional. You're parents are in the wrong for doing that, especially without telling you. It's possible that you can push back on this, since you can show that you had insurance.
@daughteroftheking84 You've been given good advice. I just want to add that you may be able to get the coverage voided. Something similar happened to me and after numerous calls to the healthcare market, they voided the entire year out and sent me and the irs an updated 1095A with all the months voided.
@daughteroftheking84 Your parents will probably need to amend their taxes, removing you as a dependent. You can technically call the IRS and they can force stuff through and go after your parents.
@daughteroftheking84 not an accountant at all- but it sounds like the way you are filling out your taxes is telling the IRS that you were ONLY insured for one month of the year when it sounds from what you wrote that you were insured year-round from your employer's plan. If that's the case you need to somehow find a way to communicate (through another 1095-A or I think there is another) that you were fully insured all months and that may fix this issue?
