Parents put me on their marketplace insurance (1095-A) without telling me now my tax return went from $225 refund to paying $4.6k. What can I do?

@dszumera Yeah I had this happen to me (mother falsely claiming me), I fixed it directly with the irs so she had to settle her bill with them, since she would have never reimbursed me the amount I would have lost

@daughteroftheking84 Why did your parents put them on their plan without your consent, and how could they do so without you knowing about it?

I would call the insurance company that did this and tell them that you didn’t consent to being put on their plan, and any attempts to add you to the plan in the future should be rejected unless they get your approval first.

@daughteroftheking84 But we’re they aware they added you? Did they somehow accidentally fill your name in a form or did they intentionally do it?

It sounds like they committed fraud. Whether you report this or not they should be paying to fix it.

@daughteroftheking84 You've been given good advice. I just want to add that you may be able to get the coverage voided. Something similar happened to me and after numerous calls to the healthcare market, they voided the entire year out and sent me and the irs an updated 1095A with all the months voided.

@daughteroftheking84 not an accountant at all- but it sounds like the way you are filling out your taxes is telling the IRS that you were ONLY insured for one month of the year when it sounds from what you wrote that you were insured year-round from your employer's plan. If that's the case you need to somehow find a way to communicate (through another 1095-A or I think there is another) that you were fully insured all months and that may fix this issue?
