I am using MilTax (H&R Block) and it keeps having me fill out Hawaii State Tax forms. Do I need to do this? I claim CA and file exempt because they do not have state income tax for SM’s PCS’d outside of the state
@manye Did you have a job besides the military? Do you have a rental property or business in HI? Does your W-2 list HI?
If not, you probably shouldn’t need to file a HI return. Is there any question you answered you’re a HI resident? If you can’t figure it out, call Military One Source.
@kitty346 Never mind I figured it out. I think it’s because I own a house here that it automatically assumes I’m a permanent resident. I just deleted the HI one and am doing a CA one. But now it is trying to say I owe CA income tax even though CA does not tax income on PCS’d residents
