Can you get the full maternity EI amount over a shorter period (e.g., 9 months)?

Let's say maternity EI pays you 500 a week for 52 weeks or about a total of 26,000$. Is it possible to get that 26,000$ over 36 weeks instead?

I don't think this is currently possible but the NDP talked about it (https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/ndp-employment-insurance-parental-leave-jagmeet-singh-1.5304327) and I was curious if anything came from that.

@lightofredemption There is a 12 and 18 month options for maternal/paternal EI. Yeah, just ignore the NDP stuff since they aren't the government
