"Outside of the Magnificent 7, the rest of the S&P 500 did nothing."

I'm going to eat my own eyeballs if I read this one more time.

Here's a list of all the S&P 500 companies that are up this year. Apple's an amazing business, but there are 60 stocks that have done better, just in the S&P 500. Do your homework, don't be afraid to buy individual stocks, and don't believe anyone who won't shut up about the Magnificent 7.

@whoselinefan Joseph Carlson has a video on this bullshit titles and showed that first ~130 companies still had better gains than the SP500, so you can buy individual stocks without thinking twice.

@fbgah Srsly. S&P 500 is almost +25% this year and no trying to divine which stock will be the breakout hit of the year before it happens. What more do you want?

@thomler Seriously though has there ever been a study showing the performance of the top 25 companies in the index vs the whole index over a period of time? Would be interesting to see ow the S&P 25 has done over the years.

@lancezz1985 this is a seriously underutilized strategy. Just invest in the top performing 25 companies in the S&P 500 every year!

The tough part is figuring out which 25 are gonna be at the top ahead of time...😉

@mc10304 If you follow stocktwits.

They post the top 25 gainers on each of the major indexes each weekend. If you bought small shares in each of those every week. You would hold about 50 stocks(there is a lot of overlap between QQQ + SP500). Every week repeat by buying the top 25 of those who have gained over the previous week. Continue this every weekend all year long and you would have big shares of the top performing stocks all year long. I tried to do this in 2023 but realized it was a time investment every weekend and got bored with it and started just buying more VOO and QQQ every week cause it was easier. But I tried to do the math on the other way and I would have made about $9000 more this year if I kept doing that all year. I promised myself I am going to try it again this year and really stick to it see if I can out perform the sp500 one more time. If it doesn't work in 2024.....I will be a bogle-head for life. If it does work....I guess I will keep doing it till retirement and see if it's really worth the time invested
