Insurance Points?

Just got a new policy and found out about insurance points. I was reading my documents and saw that they charged me 4 points under their merit rating plan for an at fault accident I had last year. Are those insurance points tied to the accident and won’t Affect me after the accident is 3-5 years old?
Just curious, and couldn’t find much info on it. Thank you

@candycane088 Most states limit the ability for carriers to charge points related to a traffic event for more than three years, though carriers can rate the driver and increase the premium for losses up to 7 years.
