How do some insurance brokers get such different auto insurance policy prices for the same types of coverage? I am shopping around for car insurance and looking for the following level of coverage:
  • Bodily Injury Liability - $100,000 per person limit, $300,000 per accident limit
  • Property Damage Liability - $50,000 per accident limit
  • Medical Payments - $2,000 per person limit
  • Other than collision - $1,000 per occurrence deductible
  • Collision - $1,000 per occurrence deductible
  • Towing & Labor - $100 per disablement maximum
  • Uninsured Motorist Property Damage - $50,000 per accident with a $100 per accident deductible
  • Combined uninsured / underinsured motorist bodily injury - $100,000 per person, $300,000 per accident.
My current rate through USAA is $1200/6 months in NC, USA.

I have gotten the following quotes (Anonymized but most are through brokers):

M's (Progressive) -658.12/6 mo - pay in full

R's (Progressive) - 788.94/ 6 mo

D's. (Auto Owners, less coverage) - 849.50/ 6 mo - pay in full

B's (Erie Insurance)- 859.50/6 moAllstate - 868.90/6 mo

M's (Utica) - 885.50/6 mo - pay in full

B's (National General) - 900.50/6 mo

M's (Travelers) - 916.5/6 mo

B's (National Insurance)- 922.67/6 mo

B's (Progressive)- 922.78/6 mo - pay in full

C's - 924.12/6 mo - pay in full

D's (Auto Owners) - 928/6 mo - pay in full

Local Farm Bureau Insurance - 981.24/6 mo

I sent them all the same exact information. How can the same policy from M, R, and B all be such different pricing?

@dbendinelli777 I have this exact policy for 8 years now with Ameriprise thru Costco. It went from $412/6mo to $615/6mo just two days ago I renewed. Always quoted at least two more places when I renewed.
