What is the best way to understand and become a great wealth/asset manager?

There is not a single high-skill competition in the world that you can learn by reading. We learn by doing, making mistakes, and learning from said mistakes.

That said, you ALSO do have to read a widely. I think reading about financial history is the best thing to read about, followed by security analysis (either the book or the broad topic :p)
 
@lk03 Read and Network. That's probably the best you can do. Unfortunately, in the UK I think you'll most likely have to end up moving to get that big job so to speak.
