What’s your X-Mas spending plan this year?

My wife and I have had a few recent discussions with friends and family regarding Christmas plans and the discussions all seem to have a vibe “let’s not worry about presents this year” or “let’s keep it low key” the sentiment seems to be people are not wanting to spend so much this year… with current cost of living challenges what does this Christmas look like for you compared to the last few years?

@saycomasry I would have thought it was the other way around the elves have unionised and have been on strike for a year for better work rights, better fifo conditions and 4 weeks holiday pay after Christmas.

Santa the business mogul and tyrant isn’t budging.

@rotarybuddy No kids and few friends, so no presents. Might buy the dog something nice. Probably do a trip down the coast, but looking to keep expenses low as usual otherwise.

@blessedintrovert Dog parks are great for socialising. No commitment, but if you go at the same time each day you’ll become friendly with the same people. There’s a few different crowds in my dog park, one lot has a WhatsApp group and hangs out socially without their dogs too.

Dog park people live nearby and usually walk their dogs too. So you’re often saying g’day to people in the street or local cafe and you’ve got people to dog sit when you need it.

Low effort connection.

Before you get a dog though, go and hang out at your local dog park for a few weeks. You can pat lots of different dogs and get advice.

@rotarybuddy Honestly I’m just at the point I don’t want gifts. I have everything I need and I just want to spend time with my family. I’m happy to gift to others but I don’t want for anything, so I’d rather them save the money than to spend it on me

I think a lot of people feel the same maybe? A lot of people seem to be hopping off the endless capitalistic treadmill and it doesn’t always have to do with trying to save a buck

@charliepoope For probably 15 years+ Ive been telling people I legitimately don't want anything and that I would rather they spend money on themselves. Without fail you still get presents.

@rotarybuddy 29 Single with no kids - just get my parents and sister presents which I bought earlier in the year though catch when they have a sale on and cost me just under $200 and it saved me heaps

We're doing our thing this year so I'll he staying at home with some take out food and weed, case of red bull and play some video games
