Vehicle Accident Scenario: What if..

I'm asking because this almost happened to me recently:

Ontario

1. I'm approaching a green traffic light, in the straight through lane.
2. Three car lengths in front, an SUV was approaching a left turn, in the designated left turn lane. No problem.
3. As the gap closes between our two vehicles, he starts moving the right side of his vehicle into my lane, such that his right tires are maybe a good foot in my lane.
4. I am still behind him at this point, but had to slow down and lay on the horn.

I'm not even sure he understood what he did that annoyed me... who knows.

Granted, truck drivers likely have to do this manoeuver sometimes to make a turn, but I'm curious what would have happened if I had continued along his side and he swerved into me?
