@johhny First of all. Stop fucking gambling. Second, why do all Americans have these crazy car payments. Y'all act like that shit is normal. I drive a small car from 2010 that I bought for 5k cask back in 2018. No issues whatsoever, except for normal maintenance. Third don't get a credit card if you knew you were irresponsible. This shouldn't be in poverty finance. This is just a person who is stupid.

@johhny I know, I saw the post. But it's like me saying. I go get a loan form the bank. Then I go play roulette at the casino and lose everything and then go complain about being poor. In Dutch, we would say "eigen schuld, dikke bult."

@girlandtheword Get night lights, I have 4 in the living room. Thus I have ambient lights all over the house.

Makes it easier to fall asleep too.

Plus kids and babies love night lights

@johhny You’re wasting money with those lights. An LED lantern or solar/rechargeable light. Some flashlights are even crank powered!
You’re losing a few bucks a month leaving those night lights plugged in!!!!

@johhny The biggest draws are the washing machine, dryer, and refrigerator. If you want to understand how much electricity versus a microwave clock display is being used, go outside and watch your meter spin when you're running your shit.

@shad09 I didn't say to unplug the microwave!

I meant to use fewer lights, as some people I personally know have lights on all levels of the house when there aren't any people.

Or overhead lights, table lamps and kitchen light over the oven in the kitchen are all on simultaneously.

That's why I suggested using night lights.

Idk if your house should be lighted up like a Christmas tree 🎄 every day of the year.

Multiple night lights will make your home cozy, and you won't be sitting in the dark. I'm suggesting brighter versions of those. Except for the bedrooms

@johhny Cable boxes are absolutely enormous consumers of electricity and never go off. It sounds silly but if you have an older cable box (they're always hot to the touch, by the way) and you're planning on being out of the house for a long time, I would consider unplugging. Hey, every little bit helps.

@johhny This is dumb advice. Very dumb advice. Get good light bulbs, and turn lights off when not in the room. Unplug chargers when done and unplug appliances when traveling/gone for long periods of time. The amount of waisted time on doing the exteams op said will save maybe $5 a month. If $5 breaks your budget, you have bigger problems than "lost electricity".

@teslafied Read the other posts on this subreddit... and tell me where exactly I'm dumb. Replacing all the light bulbs in the house might not be cheap ,especially for people who can't plan financially or don't even have a car.

I'm offering a helpful advice ,without doing anything extra or even leaving the house.

I know that I saved $20/month bc even when I run AC at 69-70 degrees in summer months it's less than I paid before, including 3 dehumidifiers - on each floor. Or in winter, running 3 space heaters 20 hours every day and 2 oil heaters for 12 hrs. It's less expensive than before.
I'm tired of the constant noise from the central AC unit ,and it makes the air super dry.

@johhny If your outlets are still drawing electricity when they're switched off, it sounds like you have a wiring problem?

Unless American wiring is very different to Europe, if you turn off an outlet/socket here, no electricity flows to the plugs.
