Renter's Insurance for College Apartment

My apartment is requiring tenants to show proof of renters insurance before handing over the keys. However, I feel as if I do not need renter's insurance. Can I just pay for one month of renter's insurance to show proof to the office and then stop the subscription or would that lead to a problem?

@yelhsalove If they require you to list them as an "interested party", they'll be notified if you cancel. Otherwise, it's up to you. But you should be able to get coverage for about $80 a year that protects your apt and your stuff - even outside your apartment, including theft, which people aren't always aware of.
