Question about RRSP

This might be a silly question, but if I opened a new RRSP in February and contributed before March 1, will I still be able to claim those contributions on this year’s taxes? I ask because I haven’t received the tax slip yet on my new account for the contributions so I’m wondering if it’s because I opened it very recently.

@00_mary Yes. You will be able to claim it. I wouldn’t expect to see a tax slip until after March 15.

@00_mary Generally, RRSP receipts for February come about March 20.

It is important to realize that the financial companies selling the RRSPs are not required to submit them to the CRA until May 1, which means you can't get them from the CRA until May 10th, which is a little late for taxes apart from self employed persons.

Why did you not get the instant receipt that most companies offer now?
