TLDR: Don't use TurboTax because it's not free. Use Military One Source H&R Block (free!).

I've always used TurboTax to file my tax even though I was aware of this
but when I used https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/military-edition.jsp, it always came out to $0 at the end. However, I used the same link for this year's tax return and TurboTax was asking me to pay them $119 to file my federal tax. Also, their https://freefile.intuit.com/ said "Intuit has elected not to renew its participation in the IRS Free File Program and will no longer be offering IRS Free File Program delivered by TurboTax." Not sure if this was the same as the military edition but the military edition is no longer free when you file even though the their website shows $0 when you visit the link above...

I switched to Military One Source H&R Block at https://www.militaryonesource.mil/financial-legal/taxes/miltax-military-tax-services/ and it was free to file federal & state taxes. Turbotax was easier to input stock sales but H&R Block was still manageable after reading some IRS forms.
