Ps. If this happened on a state owned highway or road in CA, Caltrans is accepting claims for these types of losses due to the pothole problems caused by the massive rain storms this winter. Go onto Caltrans website or info if this is applicable to the OP

Follow up question: if I pull out of claim to pay for all damages then would it still show “accident reported” on the VIN?

@sirenoftherocks It’s a collision, but the good news is that a lot of insurance companies consider potholes to be non-fault losses.

@sirenoftherocks It’ll be collision. Comp is for vandalism, weather damage, theft, and animal hits.

@sirenoftherocks Unfortunately it’s definitely collision. My state is the land of potholes & I have 2 on my record and 2 more I paid for without insurance. Not the same car but one of the reasons I pay more to keep my deductible reasonable
