[New York] Does my GF qualify for unemployment?

My gf is a home helping aide for her mentally disabled uncle. Her uncle is going have knee surgery later in the month. She just found out today that with her uncle being in the hospital/rehab center she will have no work to do. Supposedly this will last for a month. Will she be able to claim for unemployment during this time? When should she start the unemployment application? Not exactly fair that her "company" can just not pay her for a month. Any help would be awesome and thanks in advance.

@moriahjbk She has to be willing to accept a different assignment from the agency that pays her. If they don't have something for her, she should qualify. Then they should be willing to move her back to the uncle. This is a rather common situation.

@moriahjbk If she is paid w2 wages for this then she should qualify. If not then she won’t
