Need some help making a decision on my damaged car...

I bought a 2009 Honda Accord EX-L as a pre-owned in 2013 from Honda dealer for about ~$16K. Two weeks ago, I got into a car accident where it was my fault but I have 1st accident forgiveness. Current mileage is 160,000kms.

The appraiser tells me that the front bumper is damaged and came off, there left driver side has rebar damage/misalignment, spacing seems to have gotten tighter under the hood. And he doesn't know the hidden damages. He sent the report stating car is write-off to claims adjuster. After pushing him to state cost on visible damages, he said $5K.

I did try to contact a couple of body shops to ask for a repair estimate, but no one seems to be open to give a quote till the car is towed to their shop. They seem to be hinting at some angle which makes me think they'll turn this into a money making opportunity.

Insurer is RSA Johnson Insurance (Unifund).

My claims adjuster will be calling me soon - what are my options now?

As I'd really like to get my car fixed as opposed to taking money and

go look for a new car. Don't want to spend $10-$20K over the future.

I contemplate the options may be:

a. Issue market value of car, about ~$5K & go buy a used car

b. Ask insurance to pay some $$ and rest I cover for fixes @ insurance's preferred auto body

c. Insurance returns my damaged car with some $$ and I need to get it fixed where I want

Which ones are the easy vs. hard to steer towards? And what can be reasonable estimates in

a, b and c above. Is b and c more risky? I would like to get the car fixed and run it into the ground.

There is too my confusion and unclarity over this whole process.

Would really appreciate the help.
