Last-minute tax question

This is my second year in Japan and my last year to benefit from the Foreign Income Earned exclusion. Last year I used H&R Block; this year I switched to Turbo Tax; and was asked this question. I don't remember being asked this with H&R Block and am a little uncertain as to how I should answer it.

@kristajunee LOL I just checked my tax returns going back five years and I screwed this up on the 2555 every time. Never heard anything from the IRS about it. This year I'm getting it right baby!!

@bencramsie Could you elaborate a little more please? I'd like to learn what was wrong about your 2555 so I can look out for it this year and moving forward.

@kristajunee I selected yes to question 2 when I should've selected no.

@kristajunee This is for 13a and 13b on form 2555 foreign earned income.

Check the one saying required to pay tax here (because that’s true).

Do not check the one saying you declared yourself a non-resident (unless for some reason you did that… but I doubt you did, you’d know you did it because it would have been intentional and for a reason).
