I’ve had renters insurance with State Farm for 7+ years and home owners for 8-10 before that (move to Texas, no loss, no claim)
In 2016 I had a washing machine hose burst in my 3rd floor apartment and cause $13,469 in damages, my premium went up the next year from $110 to $135 and stayed around that level (usual small yearly increase of 3-5$, noting abnormal).
Today I got a letter in the mail from a different State Farm office stating that they would not be renewing my insurance because of this loss, given that they have re-newed my insurance 3 times, and that I’m in a different apartment (thus a new policy, etc) can they actually do this? How long can a claim be referenced for additional fees / coverage cancellation in Texas?
