hi everyone, im a new regular government employee and im really curious if it would be good idea to get a private insurance (sunlife, aia, prulife and etc.) even though we already have the gsis?

  1. Ask your HR kung anong benefits nyo as gov employee. May mga perks naman yan if LGU ka may free checkup sa gov hospital nyo or free labs, discounted admission etc. From there weigh mo kung kelangan mo pa ng HMO pero kung ayaw mo sa public hospitals Pls do get HMO first
  2. Current critical illness costs 2-3M. Yung mga maintenance di naman yan free so once umabot ka sa limit ng HMO or ng benefit mo sa work, dun papasok si health insurance.
  3. You can opt for TERM health insurance like Sun Life Assure which covers 36 critical illness until age 70 tapos di mabigat sa bulsa since initial ANNUAL premium neto is more or less 12k ANNUAL for 1M coverage na depending on the age upon application. This will supplement your HMO well.

@jas3 Hello OP, unfortunately life insurance lang meron sa government. No HMO or health insurance so it is still advisable to get one from a private institutiom.
 
@jas3 Advisable pa rin. Just like sa private companies, may limitations din ang benefits sa government. Some don’t have HMO or life insurance provided ng company. As per GSIS, maybe you can check with HR the scope ng benefits mo since bago ka palang na gov’t employee. Maybe may tiering sila na nakadepende sa tenure and so on.

@jas3 Diversification is the best part. Though GSIS provides retirement but in other part, a life insurance could really define matters in the future mostly if emergency cases arises.
 
@jas3 It's good to get your own insurance din aside from the benefits given to you as an employee, 'yong sarili mo kasing insurance di magdedepende kung employed ka ba sa current workplace mo or not unlike the benefits they give na kapag di ka na employee wala na din benefits.
