Is it worth it to get a PhD at 30?

Wife works in a neuro lab at a good uni making around 80k. Which is pretty good for that type of work and no additional schooling. But we bought our house last year and the mortgage is high and we barely save 500 -1k each month. Savings around 10k. Wife is in a position to hop into a PhD program pretty painlessly but our only worry is she will get paid 30k while doing the program. That adds up to a lot of money to miss out on over those 3-5 years. She’s pretty adamant she can get a 150k+ job upon completing the program but the uncertainty makes me uneasy. She is a rockstar of her research but just doesn’t have a masters or highest. I’m not even sure how I will support us on my 80k in a HCOL and expensive mortgage without taking out some debt.
