How to go about getting coverage?

How do i go about looking for health insurance? My job offers it but the rates are a bit steep ($190) & from other co workers i’ve heard it wasn’t the best either. Ive tried looking online and every time have gotten myself completely F’d with spam calls(it was a mess) I definitely need to see a doctor ASAP. My body and mind feels like it’s deteriorating. I am not healthy. I haven’t been to a doctor since i was 14. I am 26 yrs old now & reside in MD. Also how much would i be looking at?

@markwilliams If you really don't want your job's insurance, go to healthcare.gov and shop for a plan there. Unfortunately, since your job offers insurance, you cannot get any subsidies (assuming your job's insurance meets the minimum requirements for minimum value and affordability, which most do: https://www.irs.gov/affordable-care-act/employers/minimum-value-and-affordability).

You should probably just sign up for your job's insurance. Yes, insurance is expensive. But your job likely subsidizes it, compared with the open market. Other plans would almost certainly be more expensive, have fewer benefits or both.

If you really need to see a doctor and can't afford insurance, go to a federally qualified health center (https://findahealthcenter.hrsa.gov/). They charge on a sliding scale based on income.

@giamfreeg From what i heard from other co-workers the insurance our company offers does not cover much. I can definitely afford $190 but I’m being cheap lol. I really appreciate the suggestion i will definitely be taking a look!

@markwilliams If your job insurance does not include hospitals, then it doesn't meet minimum value standards for ACA, in which case you would qualify for subsidies, although your income might be too high for subsidies. But even if your income is too high for subsidies, take a look at ACA is your job insurance does not cover hospitals.
