Does renters insurance cover property damage?

My assumption is no, but I'd like to confirm before moving forward.

I hit the garage door frame with my car this morning. Landlord has been informed and is chill, he just wants updates as we get it fixed. I checked my USAA renters insurance policy and didn't see anything about property damage being covered. My understanding of rental insurance is that it covers things I own, not what my landlord owns so I assume it won't help me here. Am I correct?

@scottbes Every policy is different. On mine it is listed as "personal liability". So that not only covers whether someone hurts themselves in the rental but also your liability for damage to the rental.
