Caught realtor in a lie - do I just have to accept this as the standard?

@m32s I don't understand how someone on this sub doesn't already know that the rule is 10-20 approve the top of the price range is where sellers are starting to accepted. Agent have been doing this for 30years.

@m32s Same here, went in and made an offer. Was told that it was too low to be considered. Tried bargaining and had to add another 30k on top before it was considered and got the house at the end of 2019. We knew that we were being played but in the long run, it was negligible. House value has increased by at least 180k now.

@m32s You never know what you don't see.

We put in a offer at the low point of the range for a 3BDR in Docklands. Back and forthed with the agent, told the same thing (other interested parties blah blah). We stood our ground, owner reduced further (about 30-40K from top of range). We stood our ground.

Ended up not buying.

We checked later and it was bought for 20K above top of the range.

Do we feel bad? For us, no; we had a budget, no sense or reason to go above it. For the sucker who paid 50-60K more than the owner was willing to sell for, absolutely.
