CA resident - Lost job on 7/31 and can’t get health coverage until 9/1

Hey everybody! I wanted to see if anyone in CA has been in a situation like mines. I lost my job yesterday 7/31 and tried calling insurance today to buy my own insurance but Kaiser and PPO said that I called too late for this month and that I won’t get coverage until 9/1/23. Company won’t offer cobra so that’s not an option. I had a trip planned for my family so would really like to be covered. Do I have any other options? How do I get coverage for the month of August? TIA!

@adolescent09 They can’t not offer COBRA. It’s legally mandated ever they offer it to you.

@ngocvncom This is not true. There are carveout for both Federal and California COBRA that can leave people in a coverage donut hole.

@bean California cobra is like 1 employee and federal cobra is only a small company

@ambassadorcjk But there are tons of exceptions including when an employer shutdown or decides to no longer cover employees. The OP is caught by this exception.
