As a 1099 contractor working overseas for the U.S government, I may be eligible for a foreign earned income tax exclusion..

This is due to my being outside the U.S. for most of the year. My question is, if I take it, will that disqualify me from the tax credit offered for Obamacare? I can maintain residency (NC) without living here, but if I don't take the foreign residency tax credit, then I am banned from using it for five years.

I'd say find a certified public accountant (CPA)

They typically charge several hundred dollars an hour, and are not obliged to come up with the right answer. No one in their right mind is going to fork over $500 for this.

an accounting subreddit.

Worth a try, I guess, but the last time I tried to speak to the accountants here was not a pleasant experience (though I can't remember the details).
