When do you feel that your salary is “enough”?

@mishsill Not complaining, I didn't mean for my post to come off like that. There's that nagging feeling that's been with me that I'm still catching up to my peers. But, as many have said here, I ought to stop comparing! And thinking about the next 2-3 years and a possible pay bump is a nice...

When do you feel that your salary is “enough”?

@jschmitt429 SMART goals, argh you are right, good point. I have just been blindly dumping money into savings without any goals.

When do you feel that your salary is “enough”?

@tkernan I think I can have that conversation once I'm at work longer / switch jobs. In terms of the difference between public vs private, I am paid fairly compared to my public friends but not with my industry peers.

When do you feel that your salary is “enough”?

@resjudicata Thank you for sharing this clip! That was really helpful to hear. I also appreciate the assurance. When I step back I do feel that sense of relief again.

When do you feel that your salary is “enough”?

@chente209 I'm in the Bay, but I split my expenses, no debt, no kids, and have been good about tracking spending while also saving. When I think about getting a house in the Bay, however, I become queasy.

When do you feel that your salary is “enough”?

@blessedwith4 What I'm gathering is to not spend much or any time on comparisons. Ignoring the feeling of not being fairly compensated, I feel good about where I am.

When do you feel that your salary is “enough”?

@cyberwatt I would love more time off ... I guess part of my frustration is that it may take more time for me to get to a place where I might be able to afford more time with family.

When do you feel that your salary is “enough”?

@chaoticbeliever Haha a good point. Reddit hasn’t been the only comparisons I’ve made but you are right

When do you feel that your salary is “enough”?

@psyduck25 I like the solitaire analogy! But I’m also terrible at solitaire so this doesn’t bode well.

When do you feel that your salary is “enough”?

@resjudicata Yes good point. I should focus more on my cards than other people's cards.

When do you feel that your salary is “enough”?

@ayoub77 Quite happy with my work! Not ready for that jump for higher pay if it means putting time into something I don't care for.

When do you feel that your salary is “enough”?

@alexisfaith27 I like my job a lot and there's definitely jobs for IT in public health, especially where we have big data and the need for security with sensitive data. One of the areas I want to explore is data engineering (I'm enjoying working with the data pipelines we have at work).

When do you feel that your salary is “enough”?

@jszlauko Nope, the programming piece was picked up while in my masters. I wish I discovered programming earlier! Good to hear that you think this range is good for where I'm at.

When do you feel that your salary is “enough”?

@bel13 I code for work but it’s for public health, where I’m probably being paid fairly compared to my peers but perhaps not fairly for my skill set when compared to those using the same skills in a different industry. I think you’re right that the comparisons are my problem here.

When do you feel that your salary is “enough”?

I started a new job at 80k after finishing my masters. My previous job paid 35k, so my reaction to this opportunity was an overwhelming feeling of relief. Now, several months in, I’m thinking I should’ve tried to negotiate for a higher salary, and that what I’m making doesn’t feel like enough. I...
