Pay off housing loan vs investing question (equating tax benefits) - Posting here as didn't get many answers in the Discord server

This comment by @mrdin2014 is also a good take. I am more slanted towards prepayment now, regardless of the pennies I might earn in the long run. Also, I'm in the 30% bracket if it simplifies calculation, if anyone is calculating for that matter.

Kuvera has turned into a shitshow

@karenhampton Ditto happened to me for 2 funds on 26 Feb. Till late yesterday, it was showing 26's NAV but when I checked the CAS today, the NAV effective will be of Mar 1. That's not fair and highly irritating as I had also placed a lumpsum amount well before the cutoff. Sometime around 11.30...

Pay off housing loan vs investing question (equating tax benefits) - Posting here as didn't get many answers in the Discord server

@ihavefaithinjesuschrist What if my term insurance amount was reached at by calculating in the loan liability, which it was? I didn't insure my housing loan as mine is an apartment as opposed to a standalone house (which demands insurance more IMO).

Pay off housing loan vs investing question (equating tax benefits) - Posting here as didn't get many answers in the Discord server

Found this strategy from an old thread. Decent strategy but not useful for me as 3 years have already lapsed into my loan, plus it does not make any prepayments in the first 3 years, thereby seeing maximum interest outgo.

@joneshomes Things take a turn when the rate increases to 7%, 8% after a year, and 9% after that. This becomes 10 lakhs over 9 years but still negligible. Let me think.

Pay off housing loan vs investing question (equating tax benefits) - Posting here as didn't get many answers in the Discord server

@joneshomes Thanks. I did calculate that and with the EMI (with no extra payments), I will end up paying 1.7 lakh as interest and 2.7 lakh as principal. Just about solid with the tax perspective. But in another comment I made, this tax benefit sits sore when I consider interest rate rise and...

Pay off housing loan vs investing question (equating tax benefits) - Posting here as didn't get many answers in the Discord server

I am not able to decide whether to pay off my housing loan or invest using the surplus every month. I have a fair idea about the benefit I will get on my investments in the long run (compared to prepaying the loan), but I want to incorporate the tax benefit (on housing loan interest and...

What's a personal finance tip or hack that should be common knowledge but isn't?

I'll start: when leaving a company, and if you were enrolled into its group health insurance (paying user; free ones don't apply), you can talk to the insurer and convert/merge it into an individual policy to take advantage of the PED years accrued there. Here's a bit more information on ET.

Selecting a bank account and advantages /disadvantages of the same

@cn17 Every time I read the term TBTF I think about Lehmann Brothers. As for the post, I think one account in a private concern like HDFC or Axis and one PSU are enough for an average Indian. I use SBI because ASBA and overall money transfer systems are good there. I use HDFC for my spendings...
