Advice re clearing my credit card

@orion3003 That's overcomplicating it. You wouldn't generally tell someone to borrow on a zero percent card to put the money on deposit. By the end of the year they'd probably have gained €60 if they did very well and they'd have to pay tax on that He just needs to get rid of the interest bill...

Advice re clearing my credit card

@thorwald First thing you need to do is stop paying that high level of interest. It's killing your ability to repay. Get an An Post Credit Card. They will give you 0% interest on balance transfers for 12 months. From there you need to repay that balance as quick as possible. Use as much of...

Investing Advice: Are Stocks better than ETFs in Ireland?

@saachristian757 The deemed disposal every 8 years is the equivalent of a 1% fee on the fund. Much better than trying to beat the market yourself

“Don’t tell the Credit Union it’s for a car!”

@brawlmasterx Interesting, I think the message is shop around and make sure you're looking at all the options.

“Don’t tell the Credit Union it’s for a car!”

@sapiens Both the credit unions near me have "green" and car loans down at the cheapest and personal significantly more. I guess there could be differences around the country

“Don’t tell the Credit Union it’s for a car!”

@annointedb Car loans tend to be cheaper than unsecured personal loans, not the other way around

@baboo Ya, that's always sounds mad to me. Leaving family and friends, not out of financial necessity but to optimise your investments tax performance

@latashadavis When dividends are paid every quarter on a normal share you need to pay tax on that when you receive the dividend

What is the issue with the 8 year deemed disposal?

@latashadavis Wouldn't we all. But you get 8 years instead of zero with normal shares

What is the issue with the 8 year deemed disposal?

@latashadavis Yes, but it compounds tax free for 8 years first

    Investment Strategy

@noose That was the main thing that stood out to me. I think the college fund should probably be in the ETF and not state savings

What is the issue with the 8 year deemed disposal?

@anro25 Your dividends are taxed if you buy normal shares. Your dividends grow tax free until the deemed disposal date in an ETF. Deemed disposal was brought in because of this endless reinvestment without paying any tax on the income

    Is this a good deal?

@duke7779 I would be asking why it is so poor then (i'd be interested to hear their response!) It's shockingly bad, so bad it sounds like they are trying to scam the employees into thinking they get a 10% match

    Is this a good deal?

@vulcanlogician It wouldn't be that unheard of in a number of industries

    Is this a good deal?

@vulcanlogician That was my first thought too. It's either misunderstood or the company is trying to pull a fast one and confuse their employees into thinking they're getting a 10% match
