Nifty P/E ratio is all time high 29.8 on 3-4 june 2019? What is your strategy?

@r3b0rn Uh, no. It's good advice to continue SIPs and not try to time the market, but the number 100 is ridiculous.

Surprise! In the last 25 years, bonds have given better returns than equity

@russellmanofgod Now start from a different point. And another. And another until you have run out of points. Now what do you find? That's what he is pointing out. At this is a single data point highlighted to sell a story. The average reality tells a whole different story. Edit: I wish people...

Let's settle the issue of ETF's and liquidity once and for all - Here's my analysis of six Indian ETFs and thier trading volumes

@neal000 Tracking is a problem for mutual funds too. There is some tracking error in the UTI nifty index fund too. But the valuation of a simple index fund is based on the NAV - with the exception of certain funds - most of them dont have any underlying ETFs (a popular exception being the MO...

Let's settle the issue of ETF's and liquidity once and for all - Here's my analysis of six Indian ETFs and thier trading volumes

@onisim Point taken :) Edit: btw, not sure whats going on, but the few nifty ETFs I checked all have a history of giving out dividends, though not regularly.

P Chidambaram: Franklin Templeton’s decision you wind up 6 mutual funds is a matter of grave concern to investors and the industry

@montse811 The risk that the fed decided to take in buying bonds is to try and ward off major business shutdowns down the line. Companies that rely atleast partially on rolling debt over will be forced to declare bankruptcy in a staggered fashion if the junk bond markets freeze or dry up. Debt...

Let's settle the issue of ETF's and liquidity once and for all - Here's my analysis of six Indian ETFs and thier trading volumes

@onisim @denorasweet, @zashmaster, @crixus123, @gunderson500 - anyone knows what's the deal with Indian index etfs and dividends? I can't seem to find any concrete evidence either way. It looks like many just stopped paying dividends. But nothing suggests that the dividends are being reinvested...

    Stimulus/Revival Package - Tranche 5 - May 17

@rosslufc Then it's perhaps the wrong thing to focus on in the middle of a pandemic - in the dire destruction of demand and jobs that we are going to face.

    Stimulus/Revival Package - Tranche 5 - May 17

@rosslufc A stimulus is very different from a budget. Budget can focus on policy changes, including environmental focus. I'm all for pro environmental moves. Pro environmental changes are going to cost money in the short term - both to the government (think subsidies or tax incentives) and to...

Let's settle the issue of ETF's and liquidity once and for all - Here's my analysis of six Indian ETFs and thier trading volumes

@ranran19 And let me add that the volatility (just the difference between the ETF price and the NAV, not talking about the volatility of the underlying index itself which is common between both mutual funds and ETFs.) makes it possible for entry points to differ significantly from the actual...

    Stimulus/Revival Package - Tranche 5 - May 17

@rosslufc Why is climate a priority for this? This is not a budget, this is relief in light of the pandemic.

Let's settle the issue of ETF's and liquidity once and for all - Here's my analysis of six Indian ETFs and thier trading volumes

@annacola What shifting goalposts? I assume that if your portfolio is so large that the you need a 2L or larger rebalancing, then it's not too hard to imagine having a 2L amount in the bank account (or one of those flexi deposits). That'd be your emergency fund, if nothing else. Then you...

Let's settle the issue of ETF's and liquidity once and for all - Here's my analysis of six Indian ETFs and thier trading volumes

@annacola Well, 2L in spare cash in the bank acc for someone trying to rebalance atleast 2L (and thus having a large-ish portfolio) isn't such a major ask. And in 3 odd days that 2L will be replenished anyways.

Let's settle the issue of ETF's and liquidity once and for all - Here's my analysis of six Indian ETFs and thier trading volumes

@annacola You can avoid this problem even for mutual funds - buy and sell on the same day so that the same day's nav is applied to both transactions (even if they are different funds). True this limits you to 2L transactions, but that isn't such a big limitation afterall unless you have really...

The US Fed launches Mother of all QEs

@denisovic The USD being the most trusted currency in the world, they do have options that many others don't. Including flat out printing money. Isn't that what MMT proponents claim they need to do? Given that Europe has already gone into negative interest rates, it's not impossible that US...

Let's settle the issue of ETF's and liquidity once and for all - Here's my analysis of six Indian ETFs and thier trading volumes

@onisim Thanks for this. Liquidity is one aspect, but tracking accuracy is another. If you could, can you track price as well? Because just the other day I was looking into the SBI nifty next 50 etf for some reason and the price was often way off compared to the underlying index particularly...
