Inheritance tax. Leave japan and come back?

@mariangel That's my thought. I mean...Japan is nice, but, with that amount you could basically take a vacation for 5 years. Why even tie yourself down in one location tbh? Not sure what taxes would be on a 6M inheritance, but I wouldn't want to pay it if I were OP just for the right to...

    Salaries in IT

@gaconvn I would suggest you keep building your skills. You may (probably will) need to eventually move to get a larger bump in comp, but you need to be seen as at least a seasoned IC or highly skilled. From what I understand, you aren't underpaid for your level of experience.

    Salaries in IT

@gaconvn I am a Sr. PM and an IC so this is a FWIW. I do have an idea about budgets though. 8m is not bad here considering your experience level. 12m seems certainly doable and you don't need to be in a major tech company, however, you likely do need to be in an established foreign company...

Pension benefit amounts for 2024 releases

@phillev I can't say I've heard most of those comments other than some version of the system being bankrupt. Well actually not that either, more like "it's not sustainable". And you can see why people would say that. It's all over this document...

But that is also unpredictable because you can't control when -if ever- you will get a transfer and to the destination. E.g. my wife and I would like to get a transfer to the US, but she was offered (and...

Move now or later in career when JPY is better? Japanese-American considering FAANG opportunity

@cdaysr It's just more of a negotiation point. As I said, go to Japan either way. Having said that while it might not be possible to get a better offer, you could make the point that to match current comp the annual comp of the offer should match the current annual comp before 1x bonus...

Move now or later in career when JPY is better? Japanese-American considering FAANG opportunity

@gingermarie Go. I moved to Japan during a bad exchange rate. The upside was that my comp was based in part on that rate conversion (130JPY to 1USD). So when the yen turned back to 105 I was doing much better in dollar terms than I had been in the US. Plus, it's a good opportunity. You...

@gustavowoltmann Why would you put it up for sale within year if you go through renovation? Just bad joujou or are you not staying in Japan?
