Converting to a non-fixed term contract

@hark I must have been an internal university rule then. It was before my time. Two female colleagues went from limited 1 year FT to non-fixed FT.

Converting to a non-fixed term contract

@faithfound I know 2 who converted at 10 years pre-covid. Very nice work environment, no one is being pushed away within the department. (Most Japanese instructors I have met do not ever elect for contract conversation as it is seen as confrontational and self interested?)

Converting to a non-fixed term contract

@faithfound Then you would be wrong. No contract I have signed included that. Could I even teach at Uni without a graduate degree? That seems...unlikely.

Converting to a non-fixed term contract

@faithfound I am confused here, none of what you stated is relevant to my situation.

Converting to a non-fixed term contract

Thank you @revstockton, @hark, and @phillev It would seem that the answer is they are "probably not" on the right side of the law. In 2-3 years, I will seriously consider filing under the 5-year rule. (I would have 7 years there at that point). At that point, I will be able to "survive"...

Converting to a non-fixed term contract

@phillev There are no research responsibilities, no contract provision for such, and zero funding or guidance for research at any of these institutions. Yet, the distinction remains. Fairly Standard academic English courses.

    Amex ANA Gold Card Application

@neonm Some people really like airmiles, I get frustrated.

Converting to a non-fixed term contract

@phillev This is not the case. One of my workplaces allows adjuncts to convert at 5 years, it is a public institution. The other, is claiming 10 years, as I stated.

    Amex ANA Gold Card Application

@neonm Covid proved to me that fungible points, (R points and V-T (now one) points are superior. Payoff you card, invest with them, etc

    Amex ANA Gold Card Application

@lovemy4girls I don't like their cards personally. I prefer to go with point systems that are really fungible. Rakuten points and V-poimt/T-point (they're joining), can't be beat. You can buy anything, including mutual funds, or just pay off your card. Airmiles seem less desirable, post COVID.

Converting to a non-fixed term contract

@nicoleb07 That is fair. I was being a little self-righteous. Caulk it up to frustration, apologies.

    Amex ANA Gold Card Application

@lovemy4girls Rakuten yes. Amazon - I was paying for Prime, and they had a Gold card offer. I was approved online. SMBC Gold - The Amazon card is an SMBC card. So it approved instantly as my credit history was transparent on their end. (Computer says YES). It seems if you have an SMBC card...

Converting to a non-fixed term contract

@nicoleb07 It probably would have been the right thing to do for your colleagues.

    Amex ANA Gold Card Application

@lovemy4girls You may need to check the fine print, foreigner residents sometimes must apply by paper. The instant applications never worked for me. (Cards - Rakuten, Amazon, SMBC Gold NL) It's more "computer says no", not a real rejection.

Converting to a non-fixed term contract

@revstockton I've seen a few court cases that support 5 years. But I don't think I have the stomach to wade through the court system, as opposed to waiting another 5 years to convert.

Converting to a non-fixed term contract

One of my workplaces has a rule that says employees can convert to a non-fixed term contract after 5 years but (hijokin Koshi/adjunct instructors) can only do so after 10 years. This provision is also in the contract. Thank you @revstockton, @hark, and @phillev It would seem that the answer...

Did anyone figure out how to buy US T-bills? Or is it a untapped niche that is waiting for its own fintech company?

@geethanx2000 Its as the label says, laddered 0-2 year treasuries. So it fits your requirements.laddering means buying a new issue as the old issue matures. The average age is 1 year.

@geethanx2000 Under foreign bonds Rakuten has a raft of notes and strips...did you all check there?
