    2023 Furusato Nozei Question Thread

@mototothemax I mean, FN itself seems to be a bit of a weird thing to me. E.g. donate a few 10man and get a new camera valued at 30% of donation value. Or a yearly subscription of household items or food, you don't need to buy later. Everybody maximizes their contributions. Ultimately it has...

    2023 Furusato Nozei Question Thread

@mototothemax Heads-up for anyone: It's worth checking the various sites if they have point campaigns. I did some (purchases) donations on one site, then found an item that wasn't available there somewhere else (furunavi.jp in this case). And then learned that they basically give back points...

Does joining the NHI make me a resident for tax purposes?

@kristhuy Is that true? For instance, I read here a few times that a WFH holder wouldn't be considered having a 住所. But it's possible to enroll in NHI or rather required in case there is no existing travel insurance. In other words, I don't see how joining NHI here would make you considered...

    Schedule C income

@phillev I guess I can see that interpretation as well but it didn't come naturally to me. Who knows though. What I don't get is your removing the word "less" here leading to: If you remove less it changes the meaning. If you make it positive "less risk averse" would become: Just to explain...

    Schedule C income

@phillev They said if he was less risk averse..., i.e. if he was risk averse the suggestion doesn't apply / should be ignored. It's of course a bad suggestion either way but it was still logically consistent with common sense.

Diversifying to protect myself beyond the 10mJPY limit of deposit insurance

@phillev Is it? Termed deposits would usually come with a separately tracked account and, well, a fixed term making cash inaccessible until the term is over, which isn't the case here. It's supposedly a 振替口座 where it lands (which is not really a termed deposit). And what does this technicality...

Diversifying to protect myself beyond the 10mJPY limit of deposit insurance

@phillev How accessible is that? Does it come with extra requirements or fees? It's not a 当座預金 account but many people actually already own an account that insures almost all your balance but just don't know it: Japan Post accounts don't get interest above 13 million. Everything above is...

Pension benefit amounts for 2024 releases

@farmer4life Thanks, not quite what I meant 😂 I think we both know that's not gonna cut it to reach and change people's image. P.S. I tried to read the first two but can't handle the format, not manga but this back and forth Q&A style.

Pension benefit amounts for 2024 releases

@phillev Thanks for this. I'm curious though, where does the sentiment come from that "by the time we all retire I don't expect we'll receive much"? Your comments seem to suggest that such thinking is wrong. If the story is much more optimistic, what could the government do to reinforce that?

Calculation of spouse credit for inheritance tax

@kristhuy FWIW, I did find this to be inconsistent with discussions we had on this subreddit around inheriting acquisition cost on foreign currency. It seems to ignore this unless this is only limited to gifts and excludes inheritance. It says 贈与など though and the referenced article 60-1...
