    Investing with private banking worth the fees?

    @thequestionistgirl yeah then nothing easier, just do VTI/VOO and I think you're good. I've calculated a couple years ago how much it costs to hedge the portfolio for such a simple case (just buy 12 month PUT and roll every 3 months) and it seemed to be around 9%. if you want to hedge the...

    Investing with private banking worth the fees?

    @thequestionistgirl I think yes, but I'll be in the minority. :) The main thing that they give you is piece of mind: you do not need to think about investments and how it reacts to world news. Sure, others recommending just buy&hold with VT are mostly correct: it's a solid strategy. However...

    Investing with private banking worth the fees?

    @thequestionistgirl If you want any form of proper customer service, Schwab is better. if that doesn't matter to you, IBKR is better. Also not domiciled in Switzerland. I don't think it matters that much, if it's a proper, big name brokerage.

    Investing with private banking worth the fees?

    @sunnyhope under a >2M liquid, you're not a "large client".

    Mortgage liquidity

    @cy26629 2% mortgage interest rate vs 8% average return, compounded over 10 years 200k paid for interest if you borrow the 1M 1.159M profit if you invest the 1M (which you can't if you pay it to the bank). even at 4% compounded over 10y would be 480k profit.

    Mortgage liquidity

    @cy26629 Because the interest rate is much lower than MMF/portfolio returns, thus you'd actually lose money paying it off.

    Mortgage liquidity

    @kapp Yes, I have an investment portfolio that I could touch if push comes to shove. I mean the bank wouldn't let you have the loan if you were completely without assets once getting the mortgage :)

    Mortgage liquidity

    @kapp Sounds to me like you're in a good spot! I'm a first generation immigrant. I was a bit scared too :) Define high debt burden? As in total nominal value of the debt? That's irrelevant, don't sweat it. You'll never need to pay it back. We paid in more than 20%, and we need to get to 35% in...

    Is it worth it to transfer from PostFinance to IBKR

    @canukhed *sigh*. maybe instead of reddit, you could have just you know, picked up the phone and called them? lucky for you I am in the same boat as I want to transfer a position, and I called them, and they confirmed that I don't need to fax it, just send via internal message on e-trading.

    Mortgage liquidity

    @kapp I own it. What was the source of the purchase price is immaterial. Same as the margin at my broker. I live in an area that is very unlikely to ever go down.

    Is it worth it to transfer from PostFinance to IBKR

    @canukhed if you ask the chatbot, it will tell you that sending it electronically is also fine via e-trading.
  12. G

    Mortgage liquidity

    @kapp No, that would make zero sense.

    Is it worth it to transfer from PostFinance to IBKR

    @canukhed oh and they absolutely disclose the fees of course: Transfer from the e-trading custody account to a custody account at another financial institution CHF 108.10 per security which for me is cheaper to transfer as I have a large concentrated position there than to sell. edit...

    Mortgage liquidity

    @sofa24h yes, but you need to have a significant portfolio size, at least with UBS you have to be a HNW client, meaning 1.5M CHF+ portfolio. housing follows inflation, and I sleep safe & sound owning our primary home.

    Is it worth it to transfer from PostFinance to IBKR

    @canukhed I've been meaning to do this but their paper form is so confusing. Any advice there from someone who did it? Is this a DCT transfer? FOP?

    Months of expenses

    @asdfkasdf Which bank gives you market interest rate on sight deposits?
  17. G

    Months of expenses

    @rodron That's a good reason but a least keep it somewhere that has a better yield like IB. :)

    Months of expenses

    @rodron Why would you keep 100k at shitty interest rates at a swiss bank?

    @jjmaleyscw This is the way.
