    Reality check on Car Leasing

@proven You don't have to. You can, if you want to. If you don't, the monthly rate is higher. It's more or less a magic trick to make it seem like the car is cheaper per month.

    Reality check on Car Leasing

@proven I'm not going to keep the car, most likely. You can think of the initial payment as preloading monthly payments, it's gone. Higher initial payment, lower monthly rate and vice versa. Doesn't matter much either way. If you don't want to keep the car, the most important thing is a high...

    Swisscaution or traditional deposit?

@briantheophilus It's a tossup at best, a gamble at worst. Personality I'd always keep it traditional.

    Reality check on Car Leasing

@tracytray02 Good rule of thumb, was mine as well - but now here's what I'm thinking: The cash earns much more when invested than I "waste" when leasing. There is also a good chance electric cars lose much more value than anticipated by leasing providers, given the rapid advancements in technology.

    Reality check on Car Leasing

In the near future, I need a new car. (let's assume, for the sake of the argument, I actually need it). I have no perspective, since I've always bought cars with cash. I'm now reconsidering this for various reasons. Those of you who do or did lease a car: How much do/did you spend per month...

    Any cheap gas life hacks?

@timothy91 Your math sounds about right. Mine is similar, that's what I did for my last car. Bought second hand. Sold for a few thousand. I got my cost down to 650.- per month, give or take. You can easily lease and drive an EV for less. Leasing a pretty good EV costs about the same. Most...

    Any cheap gas life hacks?

@timothy91 Ridiculous as it may seem - you can lease quite an expensive EV and still come out ahead. I did the math for my previous golf and a new ID.4. Knowing everything I've spend on my car for the last few years, the EV is still cheaper.

How do you prepare for yearly bills?

@savinghopexx Maybe unique, but.. I timed most so they coincide with big income months. 13th salary goes to health insurance, car insurance and some more. Another big blob is in June/July from my side hustle - straight to taxes. Other than that, I budget with Excel and just hold cash for some...

    Months of expenses

@lauriluillier Four months cash, two more months credit card, rest invested. The cash part seems overkill at times, lowering it further gives me anxiety though. "Objectively" idk.. Is there an objective number? I think you need to take your situation into account, what's the most likely...
