    Being a landlord sucks

@ceecee I left it to the managers to choose the tenants.

    Being a landlord sucks

@jess7737 I’m sorry for your experience. I didn’t know there was an option to say no to repairs. My issue isn’t about the tenants bothering us. I believe tenants are entitled to a fully functional and safe home. It’s the frequency of communication from the property managers that consumes our...

    Being a landlord sucks

@freeme2013 I understand that maintenance comes with IP but it is a lot of decision making about things we don’t understand and it gets expensive. Our properties were positively geared but with the interest rates increasing + endless repairs, it is exhausting and time consuming. It’s also...

    Being a landlord sucks

@olmes Thanks for the thoughtful response. This is exactly how I feel. Dinner time is just about discussing whats broken when investment properties were intended be our side hustle. We earn more from our main jobs but ips have become more time consuming. It doesn’t make sense financially to keep...

    Being a landlord sucks

@alex818 We lived in one of them for 5 years, built equity and used it to finance the other two which were positively geared at the time of purchase. Cash flow wasn’t affected.

    Being a landlord sucks

@resjudicata Emails once every 2-3 months is ideal! Even monthly would be manageable. I think we have been unlucky with both tenant choices and property managers.

@layton17 I probably shouldn’t complain about my yacht then

    Being a landlord sucks

@joeforchrist Glad to know it’s not just me.. growing up, my parents glorified home ownership and how many houses our family friends equated to how successful they were. I guess it’s not for everyone

    Being a landlord sucks

@tracylee Our places were all positively geared at the time of purchase. I agree, negative gearing doesn’t make sense to me unless you know with certainly there will be huge capital growth to offset the loss. We actually charge 20% less than market rate for our rentals to help our tenants and...

    Being a landlord sucks

@wheelgirl They ended up fleeing the country with hundreds of thousands of debt. They also never went to work.

    Being a landlord sucks

@wheelgirl Good question, I never asked the neighbours how they found us. These tenants forged all of their bank statements, university qualifications, screen shots of their bank balance. They even photoshopped an invoice for a bond clean that never happened.

    Being a landlord sucks

@diannna Noise complaints, parties and drugs became an annoying issue for us when the neighbours somehow found us and sent us video footage. Do you just approve all maintenance requests?

    Being a landlord sucks

@catholics7777 Why can’t I complain about having assets? Should I be grateful and never complain because I have nice things?
  15. I

    Being a landlord sucks

@catholics7777 Why? Hard to believe that some people work hard and have assets?

    Being a landlord sucks

@lone_disciple We have 3 different ones and am wondering if we got unlucky 3 times. One of them even complains to me that the tenants are rude to her.

    Being a landlord sucks

@stormsailor Real post. My houses are around 10 years old and look relatively nice. I must just be unlucky with tenants not looking after the place.

    Being a landlord sucks

@stormsailor You must be lucky then.

    Being a landlord sucks

@nessofonett05 Is there something wrong with asking the population if they experience this differently? Why so much hatred towards someone who owns assets? I literally said in my post I’m considering selling everything as a solution. I find it baffling that reddit hate people who make enough...

    Being a landlord sucks

Most people only talk about the glory of accumulating properties, the benefits of negative gearing, capital growth, leveraging the banks money etc no one really talks about the weekly emails from the property manager with noise complaints from the tenants neighbours, tenants selling illegal...
