    Hooray you’re middle class in Texas!

    @ernestcop I’ll defer to your lived experience, as I haven’t lived in SA but 100k for a family of 4 feels like a stretch. In the no debt case, maybe possible, but most Americans almost certainly have a mortgage they need to pay and that has to be accounted for

    @ernestcop Still a stretch on 100k for a family of 4 imo

    @resjudicata Yeah good luck affording anything on a 100k income in Austin/DFW with a family of 4

    Roast the Budget - 34[M] + 35[F] + 1YO

    @billyherman45 No ESPP and/or RSUs from employer? Those are pretty useful wealth building tools and are standard for most tech roles. You may be getting underpaid tbh, 160k imo is low for SFBayArea (assuming you have ~10 years or so of work experience based on age)

    Inheritance

    @garth428 Um yeah , should be credit cards first, unless the CC debt is part of some 0APR promotional deal. Also 150k is massive student debt, I’m hoping that this is for med school/some similar career where you’re making a buttload of money right outta the gate.

    Buying a car?

    @fullmoon As long as the monthly payment is not >10% of your income, I think you’re okay. Tbh there’s a lot of savings/asset value talk but imo if it’s something you want, I think you should do it. I was in a similar boat and bought myself a ~40k new SUV. Zero regrets.
