    US citizen investing from EU

@kimhills Regarding #1 - I spoke to a retired guy from Schwab about this. He said they don't really care where you are physically, but they do care about where you claim your legal residence is, because: In case they need to sue you. They can serve court papers to your legal residence - even if...

Pay Broker or Invest on my own? US Expat not able to use firms like Vangaurd

@zachgreenlee So instead of posting the link to actual research which you quoted, you posted "how to google it"? This is the best evidence you don't have any research, and not worth wasting time with.

Pay Broker or Invest on my own? US Expat not able to use firms like Vangaurd

@zachgreenlee So you don't have the research, and expecting me to google that? Are you a financial advisor?

Pay Broker or Invest on my own? US Expat not able to use firms like Vangaurd

@zachgreenlee Okay, can we see this research which "shows" that? This means there are no "good financial advisers" as I haven't even heard of anyone who was able to beat the market by 2%+ constantly.

Pay Broker or Invest on my own? US Expat not able to use firms like Vangaurd

@zachgreenlee what? that's really bad. To justify even a 2% fee (and many charge more), the advise should consistently beat the market by that amount, and none does. All the things you've listed are really basics. "insurance" lol.

Q: US Citizen moving to Ecuador on Investment Visa using Ecuador CDs. Does my plan sound viable?

@prov31lt It happens once the bank is found insolvent. You won't get money overnight from FDIC after telling them "this bank refused to pay back my deposit".

Things to do when leaving the US permanently (not a US citizen)

@shawnab I am unsure how this would work. Since you won't have the right to work in the USA, how can they hire you as a contractor in the US? Or your US employer has Swiss office and will hire you in Switzerland? You do not. It ends automatically once you no longer pass the IRS "substantial...

Q: US Citizen moving to Ecuador on Investment Visa using Ecuador CDs. Does my plan sound viable?

@benf101 Also even if there is insurance and if it pays, even with FDIC it won't happen overnight. You need to check how long the process takes, to make sure its not "tens of years".

Pay Broker or Invest on my own? US Expat not able to use firms like Vangaurd

@treesd How is this illegal? What specific laws is one breaking by doing so?

Should I invest in the U.S. or Mexico as an expat?

@mastermulti One also need to compare the level of protection the assets would receive in Mexico and in US - both on paper and the real implementation.

Q: US Citizen moving to Ecuador on Investment Visa using Ecuador CDs. Does my plan sound viable?

@benf101 As far as I've read, 32k seem to be the maximum TOTAL insured funds, no matter how many accounts you use. There are also some concerns regarding how reliable is their insurance guarantee if there is a major issue. After all, unlike US FDIC, Ecuador cannot just rely on printing more...
