    @allaneparker As others have mentioned, self-pay itself is not fraud, but what they probably meant is that it would be fraud if she reported she didn't have insurance when she did in order to access the provider's self-pay rates. It may seem like a white lie like some others in this thread...

    @jander8629 Yep, my comment would only be for in-network providers. The out of network provider is not required to file claims to or interact with the insurance company at all barring either of the the scenarios where the patient has no surprises act protections or if there was a state law...
