Outrageous price of ready meals in Australia

@bobby26 Haha fair point. Food primarily is an energy source. But you can make those kinds of quick/easy meals enjoyable. I just gave one very simple example.

@polygon That can be done in addition to either scenario

My job often has a lot of down time... how would you use this time productively?

@neonbelly99 Fair recommendation. Keep in mind this is 'a few bucks' on top of 'a few bucks'. I.e. already making a comfortable wage and our family is comfortably meeting our expenses and able to save. So those few bucks would go immediately into investing and grow/compound into lots of bucks in...

Outrageous price of ready meals in Australia

@feelingunloved I would add that educating yourself on nutrition is arguably more important than being able to cook. Cooking just makes food more enjoyable. You can crack open canned veggies, can of tuna/sardines and some microwave rice. Just an example of a cheap, relatively healthy meal.

@baltazar Sounds intriguing. And how do you monetize this?

    What would you rather?

Lazy Sunday shower thought… A) start with $300k inheritance in your late teens/early 20’s. Work a stable job where your annual income caps out at around $100-120k. B) start with nothing. Go through the pains of living on a student budget, begin your working life on a modest income, but...

    Would you retire on $100/day?

@coldnorth Better than working your whole life like a sucker. You can build a very sizeable portfolio if you live with parents for the first 10 years. Your partner can earn income. Did I mention you never have to work again?

My job often has a lot of down time... how would you use this time productively?

@resjudicata Yes, I don't do it to the extent you have outlined, but definitely have found using the time for life admin to be useful. Whether it's research, paying a bill or whatever. Some good tips though, thanks

My job often has a lot of down time... how would you use this time productively?

My job requires me to be onsite (at various sites each day) for X amount of hours. It is very site-dependent, but sometimes I am only working as little as 10-20% of that time. E.g. a 4-hour stint, I might only have 30 minutes of "work" to do. Is there any way to earn a few bucks during...

    Would you retire on $100/day?

@kayla0612 Fair enough. You would earn the $100 even without getting out of bed, just to be clear…

    Would you retire on $100/day?

@prodigalson8523 Nah son, are you? if you live off $11,500/year from ages 18-23 (very doable if you live with parents) you will save $25k/year or $125k total as per the rules I outlined, you are allowed to park this money in a HISA or ETFs, so presumably this will snowball into an even larger...

    Would you retire on $100/day?

@ellenaus You don’t think working and sleeping for most of your life also comes with certain (non-financial) lost opportunity costs?

    Would you retire on $100/day?

Hypothetical: Starting from 18 years old, you are paid $100/day into your bank account, 7 days/week, tax-free for the rest of your life (increasing to match inflation). You are not allowed to earn or receive any additional money, except for passive investments such as HISA, term deposits or...
