@uberweston You shouldn't store more than 100K with any given bank. It's just unnecesary risk that you may not get your money back - although that's probably impossible, especially if a cantonal bank backs it up.

@sonofmatthew Yes, we're talking about withholding taxes of different countries. Swiss income taxes have to be paid no matter what.

@sonofmatthew Dividend taxes are reclaimable from US ETFs because of a CH USA tax treaty. IE ETFs have no dividend taxes, but they pay the US taxes to the US - thus you can't recoup them at all, they're gone.

@eee27 IBKR is not made for stuff like this and will likely at least warn you that they're not a currency exchange. People have been banned from currency conversion when they abused IBKR.
