    Satrix S&P500 down 4.5 vs Actual S&P500 up 1%

@silbo As you say, there are multiple factors. Most likely small discrepancies in the weighting of the holdings can do this. It's a tracking fund, and tracking is always a little bit off so you just have to take it on the chin and rest easy knowing that historically they have tracked really well.

    2 houses 2 bonds

@miracleboy Option 1, but don't use the 500k to reduce installment, just to reduce interest. With a flexi bond on a bad month you can literally transfer the month's installment from bond to cheque account right before payment goes off. Better still would be to use up to 350k of that money to...

Easy Equities TFSA Bonds investment R186

@percival1994 You're right. In this case it would be compounded only at payout intervals. Regular interest baring investments that are accessible are normally compounded daily, but added monthly for instance.

Easy Equities TFSA Bonds investment R186

@percival1994 The effective annual rate will be 10.5% of the face value. The compounding is actually done daily. The bond will pay out final interest + face value at maturity. There won't be an increase or decrease in price as it will go back to par as the bond matures.

House Loan vs Long Term Saving

@unbelievable Biggest consideration when buying property should be how long the home will likely be able to serve your needs. Insane Personal Loan Interest Rate

@delistuff Absolutely don't take this offer. They said no to a student loan so shop around at different institutions for a student loan. Get a sensible structure and don't go this route.

    Insane Personal Loan Interest Rate

@delistuff Their book needs balancing in the other direction than what taking you on would cause. You are too much risk for unsecured debt for them currently so they are giving you an offer that most likely sends you packing, and if you are dumb enough to take it they get compensated for now...

    Where to go from here...

@cami777 Very unlucky, but not a very common situation. The bank likely doesn't even know your employment status, and generally speaking are happy as long as you remain solvent. They have no reason to block your access.

Sold our apartment in Claremont and unsure whether to buy or rent

@geof2015 That is sometimes true, not always. You just came out of a short term purchase that had high financially implications even before considering all the costs of buying and selling. Short term buying is always costly. You admitted your next move is also for the short term "for the next...

    Bank account for a startup

@mentallydiseasedapostate I'm with FNB for personal banking, so that was by far the simplest way to go about it for me.
