‘Tis the season to be thankful and I‘m starting with you r/personalfinance

@flowerbud Someone told me the worst decision was usually not making any decision at all. You’ll figure out which way to go soon enough I’m sure. Maybe a combination of both too?

@bringmetothelight “Paying down debt is guaranteed ROI.” I don’t remember the user that said that but thank you. That comment started it all.

@ghb Good luck to you! And don’t be afraid to raise your hand if you need help. I mostly lurked here but there’s so many people willing to help you out if you take the time to ask for it. Knock it out next year!

@moje I really like these analogies. It's definitely a balance between enjoying life with what you have today v. building a foundation to live a fruitful life in the future. We try to cut on things like eating out, a car, and buying material toys and instead we focus on travel. We budget a set...

@jewelrnae99 Congrats on your progress and thanks for sharing. It makes it easier knowing there are people out there going through the same thing we are. Keep it up!

@hearty1100 Very true. And I really try not to prescribe solutions solely based on my own anecdotal experience. And generally, she's on top of those mistakes you're talking about but she has so much going on as she builds her businesses that it's getting harder for her to manage. I haven't...

@thanhhang1990 Seriously. I’ve never been one to keep (or even make) new year resolutions but my partner pushes me to set life goals, grow, and reflect on progress. I owe a lot of credit to her too.

@slaphappie Absolutely I could have but what I got instead was guaranteed return. The risk in investing paralyzed me into not making any decision for the past few years. That money more or less just sat there. The inaction is my fault but I was happy to see how action can materialize and...

@resjudicata Thanks! A caveat for clarity: I had saved up 12K throughout my twenties and received another 4K from a family member this year that I was planning to invest but decided to put it to paying down the loan. So in the course of the year it was probably closer to paying off 20K...

‘Tis the season to be thankful and I certainly owe a debt of gratitude to this sub. Apologies in advance for the length. One year ago today I made a resolution to get my finances in order, devise a plan to payoff my student loans, and ultimately track every single dollar I spend in 2017. I...
