    W-8, tax benefits at IBKR

@pastorphil Check your withholding tax for Dividends on U.S. Stocks or ETF, if 15% IB did that for you, if 30% open a ticket. You get a message if you have to fill out W-8 BEN, but I think since a few years they do it for you if you have Swiss tax residence.

Seeking Advice on Investing in S&P 500 ETF in Switzerland

@uberweston As already said, use IB, way cheaper than UBS and no stamp tax. Many people hedge currency risks with futures, swaps, carry trades, options, or, the most expensive way, hedged ETF. I don't. In my opinion every last and single company is it's own currency. If you measure your...

Best broker for long term investment?

@ardentbeliever Seriously? Worst company my pal ever had the misfortune of doing business with. They charged double withholding tax on US stocks even he filled out all the paperwork correctly, they charged 20-100 times what IB does for currency exchange and broke almost any promise they made...

So the answer is: it sounds too good to be true but with high probability it is true. You will get money back...

    CHF to EUR transfer

@georgefeege Cheapest works only if you have already an account at Interactive Brokers and both, the CHF and EUR account are in your name: you send the CHF to IB, change it there to EUR and then send the EUR to your German account. Don't bother opening an account just for this purpose, it will...

    IBKR US witholding tax

@daibushi Easy peasy, just put the positions in form DA1, that is all. Details depend on Kanton, most will first charge tax and then pay you back according to several factors. Usually you get the money in October, but i guess this depends on the Kanton too. BTW: the 15% is the maximum you get...
