How would you keep your losses at a minimum with vehicle replacement?

@antimony It's high on the list according to everyone, I just have to do more research into it.

How would you keep your losses at a minimum with vehicle replacement?

@aaarmstee67 That's one I haven't come across in all of my looking, but It's probably too big and too little mpg. I'll check it out.

How would you keep your losses at a minimum with vehicle replacement?

@candicejoy218 Planning on it. Getting estimates, parts lists, reading technical manuals, DIY write ups, watching how-to videos.

How would you keep your losses at a minimum with vehicle replacement?

@ladyofthedogs Yeah, the range would be an issue there. I drive 500 or more miles some days.

How would you keep your losses at a minimum with vehicle replacement?

@conguero1 I've been wanting a second car as a backup for a while, but I just realized before reading your comment that if my car goes down and takes a week or two to fix, that's about 1500 to 3 grand I could miss from not working.

How would you keep your losses at a minimum with vehicle replacement?

@leaps Obviously. I should have said that. I'm doing the work now anticipating a buy in the coming year.

How would you keep your losses at a minimum with vehicle replacement?

@theparadox116 Again, ideally yes, but we're older now and need to be slamming retirement.

How would you keep your losses at a minimum with vehicle replacement?

@theparadox116 Normally, but once I paid that car off in 2 years, we focused on getting the house paid off. Paid it off in 12 years, 4 years after the car was paid off.

How would you keep your losses at a minimum with vehicle replacement?

@wolmart So what are these smooth as butter components I need? Hook me up and I'll buy them. I have come across zero people who have replaced suspension on a Fit that has softened the ride, so you must know about parts that are super highly classified.

How would you keep your losses at a minimum with vehicle replacement?

@wolmart Yeah... That's not really a thing for my car. It's well known in the comunity that you can't polish the turd that is the rough ride in a Fit.

How would you keep your losses at a minimum with vehicle replacement?

@carolus Yes, a complete suspension swap is on the books. That will only do so much. It's not a smooth car, even ten years ago with only 27,000 miles.

How would you keep your losses at a minimum with vehicle replacement?

@firefly7777 The seats aren't the problem. It's the atom bomb that goes off when I ride over bumps. It's seismic as much as it is auditory. I feel incredibly insulted and shamed when it happens.

How would you keep your losses at a minimum with vehicle replacement?

@firefly7777 I'm planning on doing that in the next couple of months. It's all original and has 210,000 miles on it. Even when it had 27,000 on it, it wasn't a smooth ride. For a simple work commute it was fine. 800 miles in 14 hours would get a bit old.

How would you keep your losses at a minimum with vehicle replacement?

@carolus Yeah, it's just sad that nobody makes a comfortable and quiet economy size hatchback. Comfort and quiet shouldn't only come with massive size and poor fuel efficiency.

How would you keep your losses at a minimum with vehicle replacement?

@anonymoususer Way too big for what I need.

How would you keep your losses at a minimum with vehicle replacement?

@anonymoususer I should have mentioned I hate sedans and basically need a hatchback anyway for what I do. I think a Prius is a hatchback, or at least some are.

How would you keep your losses at a minimum with vehicle replacement?

@revelational Good idea on the repo auctions.

How would you keep your losses at a minimum with vehicle replacement?

@revelational If I could get 5 year old cars at 50 percent off like the pre pandemic days, I probably wouldn't even be worried about strategy on getting another car. Less depreciation is something to look into regarding the Prius though.

How would you keep your losses at a minimum with vehicle replacement?

I drive my own vehicle about 65-75 thousand miles a year with the job I have now, and I intend to keep this job forever. I get the IRS reimbursable rate (currently 65.5 cents per mile) which is tax free, and I get an hourly rate too. After fuel, I make about 35 dollars an hour, and 2/3rds of...
